Edition 3 - A British Paradise

Silky, silvery beaches and clear cerulean seas, enveloped in a blanket of vivacious Cornish greenery. Stepping on to the beach at Carbis Bay transports you to another world.

As one of the most scenic and safest places to visit in Britain, it is unsurprising that this little slice of Paradise is rapidly gaining momentum and popularity within the tourism sector - leading the way as the ultimate staycation destination.

Cornwall has a long-standing reputation as one of the most covetable holiday destinations in Britain - and for good reason. With a sprawling oceanic vista and a vast, lush landscape, the farthest-reaching leg of our country is unparalelled as our very own little utopia.

St. Ives - CornwallAt the heart of Cornwall is the enigmatic St. Ives - home to Carbis Bay, and an unsuspecting hub of modern culture; St. Ives is rich with ethereal charm and quintessential nostalgia. A unique paradox, St. Ives is steeped in both British tradition, and rich Gallic influences - a holiday destination like no other, evoking a true sense of "home away from home". This quaint town has been voted Coast Magazine's 'Best Family Holiday Destination' and is home to a bustling, lively art scene. Acting as a second home to modern artists like Jeffrey Pratt, St. Ives was once home to renowned sculptor Dame Barbara Hepworth, and visits to her home and studio are open to the public throughout the year. The seafront Tate gallery rotates carefully curated exhibitions of iconic artworks by modern masters, as well as a broad offering from Britain's most pertinent current artists. Cobbled streets and steep, narrow alleyways are home to quirky independent shops and Britain's best offering of seafood restaurants overlook a glistening bay - filled with colour and life as pretty coloured sailboats pass by.

Carbis Bay - Blue Flag BeachNestled between St. Ives (which is currently the most searched for holiday destination in the UK, surpassing searches for London breaks), and the town of Hayle, Carbis Bay boasts pristine, blue flag beaches and some of the most scenic spots in the UK. With a wide range of holiday homes at its disposal– from cosy surfer’s studios, to impressive 5-star hotels; Carbis Bay caters for every budget and taste. Our favourite secret escape is the recently refurbished, impeccable Crystal View apartment located in the stylish Compass Point development.

The ultimate luxury stay, in the optimum location, Crystal View is just a three-minute walk from the breath-taking Carbis Bay. With endless bravado, offered through an exquisite decor and opulent furnishings, Crystal View offers an elegantly unique setting for a trip to the coast. Our favourite room in this flawless apartment is the master bedroom. Blanketed by sea-views, the master bedroom offers a distinct sense of rejuvenation and tranquillity. The decor strikes a delicate balance between luxurious and serene – using a sophisticated, modern palette of neutrals, seamlessly invigorated by the warmth of our Mediterranean inspired Mustique furniture. The decor is further adorned by a carefully curated assemblage of en-vogue soft furnishings and accessories.

Mustique Furniture on display at Crystal ViewCrystal View is perfectly positioned and is only a stone’s throw from the shore. Whilst we love to spend an evening serving up appetisers in the expertly curated tropical garden, from the state-of-the-art bespoke kitchen (both areas seamlessly flow into one another, for the ultimate entertaining experience); the soft hum of the sea beckons us during the day. A brisk walk at dawn, as the fresh, fragrant morning air rolls over the waves, is truly the most refreshing way to start the day. After a day of soaking up the sun on the beach, we return to the ambient apartment, with the soft sound of the sea staying with us; softly soothing into a restful night’s sleep. Just one day spent in this idyllic location, we feel restored and refreshed - and day-to-day life seems a million miles away.

We chatted with Crystal View’s owner Mrs. Lansdale to ask her what inspired the interior decor, her favourite aspect of the apartment and her expert advice on how to get the most out of your stay on this stunning spot of the coast.

What was your inspiration behind the interior of Crystal View?

“We wanted to create a high-end, luxury apartment to ensure client’s needs are wholly fulfilled. Everything has been carefully considered to include heavenly mattresses, ensuring an excellent night’s slumber; day/night blinds, and TV’s conveniently stored in the ends of all beds, providing the ultimate in comfort, luxury and convenience. We also opted for a bespoke fitted kitchen that includes granite work tops and state-of-the-art culinary facilities for those who love to cook. The Mustique range of furniture elevates the apartment, offering an airy, Mediterranean feel. The driftwood glass top dining table, coral effect ornaments and bleach-washed light oak flooring helps to create a coastal feel throughout – offering a fully immersive, Cornish experience. The lounge and the master bedroom benefit from spectacular sea views, and the courtyard to the rear is truly the jewel in the crown! By day, it is a heavenly sunspot to enjoy breakfast, coffee or lunch. At night, it is a great place to dine al fresco and enjoy drinks. With the added benefit of a heated lamp over the dining table, and close proximity to the kitchen, it is the ideal spot for evening entertainment.”

Are you able to decide on a favourite space in the apartment?

“We love every room in the apartment! The rooms are all so tastefully furnished and utterly relaxing. However, the tropical garden to the rear of the property is our favourite spot. Cornwall’s endless blue skies can be enjoyed here – whether it be the morning, lunchtime or early evening - listening to the seagulls and admiring the array of tropical plants is heavenly. The curated selection of plants is beautifully illuminated at night by soft outdoor lighting, a perfect spot for enjoying evening drinks.

Where is your favourite place in St. Ives?

“There are a number of excellent dining options in St. Ives, from burger restaurants, Thai, traditional fish and chips, to 5-star dining – there is something for everyone and it is hard to pick a favourite! Some of the most popular spots include Porthminster Cafe, Seafood Cafe and Carbis Bay Beach Club.

And, finally, what is your favourite thing aspect of St. Ives?

“The beaches in St. Ives are superb for both surfing and relaxation. In particular, Carbis Bay beach is stunning and is an accoladed Blue Flag beach. The coastal walks are particularly scenic, as well as the enchanting (albeit short) train journey form Carbis bay to St. Ives."

"St. Ives has a traditional, family-oriented feel and is a great place to escape from the norm of one’s day-to-day routine!”
